Destination Dignity…Celebrating People
Event scheduled for September 21, 2004

State Representative, Garnet Coleman to Speak

Lubbock Regional MHMR Center and Advocacy, Inc. invite the community to celebrate “Life Stories” of people with differing abilities. This is an opportunity to recognize the partnerships within our community that support the belief of recovery, dignity and community inclusion of all people.

The event will begin at 5:00 pm with a reception at the McInturff Conference Center. Danette Castle, CEO Lubbock Regional MHMR Center and Denette Sweeney, Managing Attorney Advocacy, Inc. will open the program. City Council Members, Floyd Price and Linda DeLeon will present a Proclamation from the City Council and the Mayor. Additional event highlights include: the viewing of an award winning documentary, a film by Alice Elliott, “The Collector of Bedford Street” and real “Life Stories”. James E. Teague, attorney Advocacy, Inc. and State Representative Garnet Coleman will be the highlighted speakers. Paintings by artist Jerry Morrison will be on display as will Chad Stafford’s first published book, The Sublime Detour. Several copies of the artist’s and author’s works will be given to attendees as door prizes.

Presentations will be made of the 2004 Destination Dignity Awards. The awards are in recognition of individuals, organizations or businesses that through their actions have supported the belief of recovery, dignity and community inclusion of all people. James E. Teague is being recognized and awarded for his pro bono services through Advocacy, Inc. (3) United Supermarkets of Lubbock, Market Street, Brownfield Highway and Parkway Avenue, are being recognized and awarded for their sponsorship of the United Shopper Program.
