Lubbock Regional MHMR Center Participates in National HIV Testing Day

June 21, 2004

On the evening of June 26, 2004, the Lubbock Regional MHMR Center will join thousands of other communities across the country to hold special awareness and testing events in support of National HIV Testing Day. HIV staff will be available at the corner of 18th St. and Avenue G on Saturday evening starting at 8:30 p.m. to answer questions, provide counseling and offer HIV testing to anyone who is interested or in need of services.

The theme of this year's campaign, "It's Better to Know" spotlights that people who test positive can receive care and treatment to preserve their health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that as many as 280,000 people in the United States are HIV positive and are unaware of their status. The CDC also estimates that there are between 850,000 and 950,000 Americans currently living with HIV, including more than 300,000 living with AIDS. The MHMR Center campaign and others like it across the country encourages people to take control of their health.
