The Advocate of the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2003 is Jackie Gililland.Jackie Gililland was nominated based on her consistently excellent efforts in improving the Youth Advantage Program for her consumers in Lubbock grade schools and Jr. High schools. Over the past two years Jackie has added many improvements to the already good Youth Connection Skills Training program. In the summer of 2002 and in the beginning of the summer of 2003, she conceived and coordinated the end of summer drug free youth rallies at Clapp Park in Lubbock. The attendance was monumental both years, but in truth, it was her vision that saw the importance of linking some community agencies like the Probation Office, Lubbock County Youth Center, the STAR program, and the police (which are often misperceived as negative by youth) with other agencies that have a more positive appearance to youth. This gave our community youth a sense of wholeness and an opportunity to realize that there are no good guys and bad guys, but rather people who are trying to assist them to get through their situations. Jackie has moved on to another networking job in another TCADA funded program, but we should recognize her exceptional creativity and joy in serving our consumers. |
