 The Advocate of the first quarter of fiscal year 2005 is Karl Lusk. For 16 years Karl Lusk has worked tirelessly to remove the many barriers society often puts in the way of people with disabilities. Karl works diligently with apartment managers to help them understand the importance of safe and stable housing for people with a diagnosis of mental illness. He has been able to encourage apartment managers, who had been reluctant to lease apartments to some of our consumers, to be more supportive and offer housing to individuals who have a diagnosis of mental illness. Karl strives to teach consumers the importance of self-respect and dignity. His strength is the way he demonstrates that it takes few words, but daily positive actions to make a loud statement about who you are and what you stand for. He is "an army of one" who brings about positive changes for many. |
